The competition for Finland’s New Museum of Architecture and Design was launched in April of this year, about seven-and-a-half years after the City Council voted not to fund the construction of the Guggenheim Helsinki for the same site in the city’s South Harbour. As such, the Foundation for the Finnish Museum of Architecture and Design was established and a NEW competition ensued: below is our submission (which ended up being too curvilinear/the jury essentially went for almost exactly the original design)
The main concept was to lift the Muesum above the water’s reach, and create a unique (and ethereal) public space below in the vein of Will Aslop, with echos of footsteps and waves and voices all around.
